Professor Sa’ad Medhat

Sa’ad Medhat is Chief Executive of the New Engineering Foundation, an educational charity that supports the development of Vocational Education, Knowledge and Technology Transfer in science, engineering and technology.

 

Sa’ad is a member of the Higher Education Funding Council’s Quality Assessment in Learning and Teaching (QALT) Committee (since 2002/3). He was a member of the advisory panel that led the development of HEFCE’s Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs) and subsequently acted as an assessor of the initiative. 

 

Dr Medhat is a Visiting Professor to Bournemouth University, a Court member of the University of Bristol, and a member of the Industrial Board at Loughborough University.

 

Sa’ad is also a member of the Steering Groups responsible for the development of the new Specialised Diplomas in Engineering and Manufacturing and he continues to be actively involved with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (Engineering).

 

Dr Medhat held a number of senior industrial and academic positions including:

 

§         Founding Director of the Engineering Technology Board- a professional association;

§         Chairman of Productivity4you Limited – an e-learning technology provider;

§         Vice President of Futuremedia PLC, a NASDAQ technology Company;

§         Founding Principal and Chief Executive of Dubai University College (Modelled on the British educational system with extensive partnership links to UK HEIs);

§         IBM Professor of Concurrent Engineering;

§         Intergraph Professor of Electronic Design Automation; and

§         First Head of Research at Bournemouth University.

 

Sa’ad’s postgraduate research (MPhil and PhD) was sponsored by Siemens Defence Systems (Christchurch, Dorset). He has published widely and has over 60 publications and books worldwide and holds a number of invention patents. His book Concurrent Engineering – the Agenda for Success, published by Wiley and Sons is now used as the standard text on concurrent engineering implementation by many companies and universities throughout the world.

 

Over the past 15 years, Dr Medhat has played a pioneering role with both the UK Government and the European Commission in the introduction of Technology and Knowledge Transfer and Innovation programmes for companies to improve their productivity and competitiveness (e.g. Microelectronic in Business, ESPRIT, SPRINT, Euro-Practice). He is actively involved with various DTI, DfES, HM Treasury initiatives in providing advice on matters relating to skills development, innovation and productivity. He frequently contributes to national consultations and reviews instigated by Government departments and agencies (Foster, Leitch and most recently the Sainsbury Science Review Oct 07).
