We have established a number of key programmes including:

  • The Virtual Knowledge Centre with online curriculum and supporting materials and resources. 

The Industrial Fellowship Scheme (IFS) provides financial support to Further Education Colleges to update the knowledge and skills of their Science, Engineering and Technology Lecturers, by enhancing their level of professional development. This scheme also underpins the current educational reforms being undertaken by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), the Leaning and Skills Council (LSC) and the Sector Skills councils (SSCs) and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), amongst others.

The Enterprise and Knowledge Transfer Scheme  provides financial support to Further Education colleges in London to engage in knowledge transfer and professional development activities.

The Knowledge and Technology Exchange Nodes (K/TENs) project is designed to help FE college build capability in their Knowledge and Technology Exchange activities. It will require Colleges to bring together the right people from business, HE and their own and other FE institutions in order to establish an action plan in this important and expanding arena.

The NEF Masterclass Programme is a professional updating programme that aims to help lecturers to gain up to date knowledge and experience first hand the changes that have occurred in industry in recent years.

Innovate 2 Educate is an integrated programme introducing senior managers in FE colleges to knowledge transfer and innovation in the FE context, through regional workshops, action learning and mentoring. The aim is help senior managers understand and identify the opportunities in knowledge transfer and innovation, and grow their college's capacity to deliver KT activities.

The Virtual Knowledge Centre provides teachers and lecturers with an effective mechanism to capture their experiences, create learning resources and exchange and share good practices.  

  • If you are a teacher/lecturer you can benefit directly if your college participates in our schemes;
  • If you are a college you can benefit by applying for a grant to support your staff development programme as well as having access to some of the latest learning resources and experiences in the engineering field in your sector;
  • If you are a business/industry then take part of the secondment scheme to engage with your local college and indeed to leverage the educational and training skills of the teacher/lecture. It also presents you with a unique opportunity to take part of a national CSR (corporate social responsibility) programme;
  • If you are a university, then improve your supply chain through improving the training and collaborative links between you and your supplying colleges;
  • If you are a Government department or agency, then effect change in the educational sector by supporting and endorsing this programme.
