NEF Tube

We all know that there are many different views and perspectives on Science Engineering and Technology.

In NEF Tube, we introduce you to videos from Mr Bill Rammell MP, Minister for Higher, Further Education and Lifelong Learning at the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills who speaks about inspiring STEM education and what can be done to develop the FE STEM sector.

We hear from popular BBC science broadcaster and Tomorrow’s World presenter, Maggie Philbin on how we need to make Science, Engineering and Technology education more real and relevant in the classroom, and how we need to ‘big up SET’ if we are to reach the target of 97,000 SET graduates by 2010.

We are introduced to schoolchildren just starting out on their journey in Science, and learn about what matters to them in Science education, and then we hear from engineers on the London 2012 Olympics’ site on what it is to be a ‘real engineer’

We gain the inside story on lecturers who have taken advantage of our Industrial and Knowledge Transfer Fellowships, and in doing so, have re-invigorated their own careers through exciting placements in industry and advanced research centres.

We hear from employers large and small who understand the value and benefits of working with their local colleges in areas of knowledge transfer and bespoke development.

Through our module http://teachingandlearning.qia.org.uk/tlp/stem/resource2/  CPD into Action: Engineering commissioned by the QIA, you can discover ways in which to improve the planning of CPD, and using our ‘Watch and Reflect Journey’ hear from lecturers who have undertaken their CPD through secondment, going on a course and through shadowing of another lecturer.

In Community Views, you will get to see a wider view of NEF’s activities in helping to innovate and inspire education in the broader sense, and in Policy Views you will hear from policy makers, strategists and leading thinkers on Science, Engineering and Technology, and gain an insight into the future of SET education.
