Masterclasses

The New Engineering Foundation has developed the Masterclass Programme for Science, Engineering, Construction and Technology lecturers in Further Education Colleges. The aim of the Masterclass Programme is to help lecturers to gain up to date knowledge and experience first hand the changes that have occurred in industry in recent years. Each Masterclass will be run at a company or an industrial centre, and will bring lecturers face to face with latest technologies and processes in a variety of areas.

The Masterclass programme is designed to complement NEF's flagship Professional Development initiative - the Industrial Fellowship Scheme - giving lecturers an opportunity to hear from experts and learn techniques to incorporate into their teaching and learning.

Attendance on the Masterclass will go towards your 30 hours (Pro rata) CPD requirement from the Institute for Learning and LSIS (formerly QIA) to keep your QTLS dual professionalism in teaching and your subject expertise updated. Each Masterclass is worth 6 CPD hours or points. In addition, you can also use your Masterclass participation towards the professional registration or CPD with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Supported by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, all the Masterclasses are complimentary- no charge; however, there are only 20 places per Masterclass (and sometimes less depending upon the type of class and hands on experiences). So, you need to be quick. Attendance on Masterclass has to be confirmed in writing.

Registration Form for Masterclasses available here.

Masterclass Delivery

The Masterclasses will run along the following lines:

  • A morning session consisting of a relatively practical introduction to the latest technology in the industry, to be given by an 'expert' from a commercial company.
  • A short session with an educational advisor to discuss how the mornings session could influence your approach to teaching.
  • A final session, less practically based, to look at future developments in the industry.

The intention of these Masterclasses is to enable you to bring your teaching to life and make your class work stimulating, informative and exciting through the use of up to date industrial examples.

By attending a Masterclass, you will be able develop innovative teaching and learning materials and use exciting case studies and scenarios to bring in industrial context and make your learning come alive for your students through up to date examples.

Upon Successful completion of each Masterclass, we will be awarding participants with Certificates of Achievements in recognition of your efforts.
