About Us

Established in 2004, the New Engineering Foundation (NEF) is a grant awarding charity (Number 1112354) that supports the development of Vocational Education in science, engineering and technology (SET) through:

  • Providing policy advice and advocacy
  • Undertaking and commissioning research studies and impact analysis
  • Developing and delivering educational programmes and resources

It is an independent and strategically focused organisation that works with key partners and stakeholders to support the advancement of education for the benefit of the public by:

  • Developing and funding a national Fellowship Scheme in engineering FE
  • Establishing Knowledge and technology exchange support services
  • Creating a range of compelling e-learning resources
  • Undertaking research and policy advice

The Foundation is also guided by Expert Advisory Panels with representatives from business and industry, academia, government agencies and educational trusts and interest groups.

The Foundation also works closely with ministers and officials from Government departments such as DTI, HM Treasury and DfES as well as non-departmental agencies such as HEFCE to provide support and advice on productivity and skills development.

NEF is funded by contributions from business, industry, other charities such as the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and public sector organisations such as the Higher Education Academy-Engineering Subject centre, Foundation Degree Forward (fdf), and the London Development Agency.

We look forward to your active participation and support in our programmes to enable us to collectively achieve the step-change improvement required in our engineering education today.
