Welcome to the April edition of the NEF newsletter 28 April 2009
As always, we're very grateful for your taking the time to read the latest news and views from the New Engineering Foundation. This month we're pleased to announce a new way to keep up-to-date with the Foundation: our quarterly printed newsletter, NEF Inform, will be arriving shortly. Do let us know what you think.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy April's e-newsletter which looks at Masterclasses, an update on our Emerging Technologies research and the launch of Innovate to Educate in June .

Also, don't forget to sign up to our Facebook group and Twitter feed for more news, resources and networking.

And if there's anything you would like us to publicise or something you'd like to contribute to or suggest for any of the NEF's media, please let our Director of Communications, Liz Ogilvie, know via liz.ogilvie@neweng.org.uk.

Best wishes,
Sa'ad Medhat
Chief Executive

Emerging Techs
The latest research study by the NEF will aim to assess how well prepared the Further Education engineering and technology sector is for the challenges imposed by the emergence of new technologies.

Following a 'think tank' in London on Friday 27 March, two regional meetings will take place on Thursday 30 April in Leeds (hosted by Yorkshire Forward) and Wednesday 8 May in Bristol (hosted by South West Development Agency). These meetings will identify national and regional skills priorities and the needs of industry in science, engineering and technology, with particular focus on new technologies. They will draw perspectives from regional business and industry, and further and higher education, as well as government. Depending on the outcome of these meetings, a final report is due in the last quarter of 2009. For further information please contact philippa.bell@neweng.org.uk.
I2E Innovate to Educate
We will be delivering Innovate to Educate in partnership with Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (Technology Strategy Board) and generously supported by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation.

I2E will be a series of regional workshops aimed at senior FE management and heads of SET departments.

The programme will be starting in June with workshops scheduled for Yorkshire, the Midlands and the South West.
For more details and for bookings contact Liz.Ogilvie@neweng.org.uk.
Industrial Fellowship Scheme – Update
The NEF have received an outstanding number of applications for the Industrial Fellowship Scheme this year. Grants available for 2009 have been allocated, however we will be holding future calls for Grants available in 2010, so please check our website for further information at http://www.neweng.org.uk/IFS.
